Wii. [Nov. 9th, 2009|12:06 pm]

winnipeg

[bajolalluvia]
Has anybody seen any bundle deals on Wii's around? I'm looking at buying a Wii for my boyfriend for Christmas, but being the non-video gaming person, didn't realize that for a good portion of the games for Wii you need a controller and a remote magigger thing per each person. Which I found is adding to be quite a good chunk of change for lil 'ol tuition ridden student me. I was asking around this morning, and was told that with Christmas coming up that there should be some bundle deals, aka a cheaper deal for the console and a extra controller/remote, but she couldn't point me in the direction of where to find such a deal. Help me out oh people from the internetz. Also. I'm clearly willing, and would love to buy Wii stuff from all you strangers. I would most enjoy if one of you was magically selling a Wii console....

Oh, and in my travels, the cheapest I saw the console was $219.99. In the case of nobody knowing where these mysterious bundle deals are, or no one having a Wii to sell me, has anybody seen them cheaper anywhere?

thank you kindly!

edit: I'm aware that in buying the console it comes with a controller and remote thingy... I'd like two of each so we can both play. =)

Another question about driving [Nov. 9th, 2009|10:52 am]

winnipeg

[vanillamari]
[mood |annoyed]

It was recently brought to my attention through a friend about more details on the graduated licensing.

I heard about it, and read about it briefly awhile ago, thinking it only meant that while you are taking your driving lessons with an instructor, and still only hold your beginners, that you need someone with a full license driving along side you. Though when you are to take your road test to obtain your actual license, that you would no longer need a buddy always there to drive with.

I was more so under the impression that if anything, you were under a probation period of 2-3 months where you required someone.

HOWEVER.

Now I'm told that after I pass my beginners, that I won't be able to even TAKE my road test until 9 months later, because I would be in the probation period of graduated license, and they want to prevent new drivers from getting into accidents and all that jazz, while I understand the safety aspects of it, I don't understand the 9 months aspect of it.

I'm 24, I want to finally learn how to drive in order to gain more independence, I also have a secondary job that I would like to get to and from, without taking a bus that takes a little over half an hour to get there.

Also being 24 means that most of my friends have their own damn lives, jobs, school, responsibility of their own, they are not going to drive all the way to where I am in order to sit beside me in a car, or take me to work.

So I really don't understand, how is 9 months really suppose to encourage anyone to keep driving with someone, or taking lessons when you still can't function on your own. Or even get to work, or to school/college without still relying on busses, and doesn't that make it pointless then? I don't find myself being any more safe on the road in 9 months when I can take my actual test and drive on my own.

It's not like I wasn't going to take as many lessons as it took for me to feel comfortable on the road to begin with.

ANYWAY, after my long gripe, anyone here who has gotten their license while this whole graduation business took effect?

What does it REALLY mean? Is it true that I always have to be accompanied for the next 9 months on the road? Even being the age that I am, is there no other probation period?

HIRE ME [Nov. 8th, 2009|07:02 pm]
winnipeg
[beconfused]
Okay Winnipeg...

I was recently laid off and haven't had any luck whatsoever finding work in person or online. I'm looking for full-time anything.

If anybody here knows of any decent places that are hiring, let me know.

I've tried looking elsewhere online, but the majority of those ads are for house cleaners or telemarketers.

This might be a long shot but does anyone work in a place where they throw out small bubbled bubblewrap? I have a small business and use bubble wrap for mailing out my jewelry orders and am running out. Let me know if you know of anyone who could help me out. I'd really love to recycle it rather than have to buy it. Thanks for any help!

Shaw [Nov. 6th, 2009|05:08 pm]

winnipeg

[pierrekrahn]
A friend of mine is a Shaw customer (tv and internet). He's one of those people that never looks at his bills.
After several years, he finally glanced at one and found a monthly charge ($5, I think) for a second IP address, which he didn't know he had and obviously doesn't use.
He called Shaw and the woman claims that all customers are automatically billed for a second IP, but then the charge is credited. She says that the credit is within the bundle discount that he gets from having tv and internet.

I'm not a Shaw customer, so I cannot confirm or deny that all customers are charged for a second IP address. Can anyone in this fine community yay or nay this charge on their own bill?

This seems very shady to me and I think Shaw has over-billed him hundreds of dollars over the years.

*** CORRECTION ***
The charge actually appears on his Statement of Account online, not his bill.

Beginners written driving test question [Nov. 5th, 2009|06:59 pm]

winnipeg

[vanillamari]
[mood |blah]

I finally grew enough balls to go out and learn how to drive, become independent and all that jazz!

It's actually pretty crucial for me to start learning how to drive soon since I plan to move in the summer.

Anyway, question to those who were productive and not lazy like me.

Roughly how many questions are on the written test, and also how many mistakes are you allowed to make before you fail?

I ask this because it just gives me a better prespective, and I feel more prepared if I know what is to come.

I've been taking butt loads of mock online tests on the mpi site, only 20 questions there, and I usually score 17/20.

I just want to be as prepared as possible.

Thanks!

Where is a good place for an acoustic act who has never played before to do an open mic? I emailed the guy from "le garage" but never heard back. We have 6 or 7 short songs and can do covers.

Groomers [Nov. 4th, 2009|05:53 pm]

winnipeg

[canadianspygal]
I have a 4 year old kitty who has matted fur on her back. We've never had this problem before and I know I need to get this taken care of soon because I don't want her to be in pain!!

I've tried to gently comb them out but they are rather tight. So I need a good groomer, preferably one closer to St.James/downtown who isn't going to charge me zillions...HELP! Will a groomer shave her?? Agh!

Thanks! ;)

styrofoam heads [Nov. 3rd, 2009|11:07 pm]

winnipeg

[phar]
I need styrofoam heads, ideally 3-5 of them. Anyone have some they'd like to get rid of, or know some business or shop where I can get them (preferably) cheap?

Can be new or recycled, beat up, badly-drawn-upon, etc; just need to be human head sized.

I tried Value Village, but they're all sold out at my neighbourhood shop. Apparently I'm not the only one with the need for many soulless eyes displayed around me.

Thanks!

I need more than just my brain to come up with something good so...

Work Christmas party locations:
Roughly 10 people - dinner/drinks & something fun? Saturday Dec 5th.
Good places? Something new & different to do?
Anyone have any good ideas / fun experiences? :)

I know it's a little late to be booking something now but any suggestions would be helpful.

So far we're looking at.. Don Pedro's or something catered at my boss' house.

Thanks!

Japanese Hair Straightening [Nov. 3rd, 2009|11:22 am]

winnipeg

[strange_muse]
Yes, another salon request.

I understand that Sets Hair Salon on Corydon does Japanese hair straightening for $100/hour (it's a process that takes 3-6 hours to complete apparently). I just want to know if anyone has had this treatment done at Sets and their experiences, other salons that do this straightening, and people's experiences with the straightening all together.

Thank you kindly.
